At Chatterbox – Speech Language Therapy, we know that being able to communicate effectively is vital for a child’s wellbeing and success in life. We are passionate about helping children develop their speech and language skills, giving them the tools to become confident chatterboxes.
Chatterbox SLT is a mobile service in Christchurch supporting children and families at school and in their homes.

Speech
Disorders & Delays
Speech is the way we produce sounds. Children can experience a range of difficulties that will affect the way they produce their speech sounds.
We support children with speech disorders or delays, giving them confidence to socialise and preparing them to get the most out of school.
Understanding
& Words
Receptive language is your ability to understand and process words that you hear or read. We support children who find it challenging to follow instructions, respond to questions, listen to stories and read.
Expressive language (talking) is the use of words, sentences, gestures and writing to convey meaning and messages. We help with gestures and first words, through to sentences, grammar, higher level language skills and literacy.
Social Communication
Social communication skills are vital for establishing and maintaining friendships. Social skills (or pragmatic language) are the “unspoken rules” we use to interact and communicate with others.
We can support children to develop their social communication.
How it Works?

Assessment
We will do an initial assessment of your child’s communication skills. We use a range of both functional and standarised assessments to measure communication capability.
Our assessment styles include: discussions with caregivers, informal assessment through conversation and play, or the use of formal assessments.
2.
Therapy
Therapy sessions are always designed to be fun and tailored to your child’s interests and goals. Session length is determined based on your child’s age, attention, and goals.
We also offer an online service through teletherapy (zoom based therapy).
